Micron inaugurates its Global Development Centre in Hyderabad

The facility would play a key role in contributing to the development of technologies behind breakthroughs in a wide range of areas such as AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning).
The event was graced by the presence of Shri K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for IT, Industries and Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Government of Telangana; Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog; and Shri SK Joshi, Chief Secretary of the Government of Telangana.
“We’re delighted to launch our Global Development Centre in Hyderabad and expand our team of engineers, researchers, developers and IT specialists,” said Micron, CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra. “Leveraging global talent, like our new Hyderabad team members, helps us drive innovation and stay at the forefront of emerging memory technologies”, added Mehrotra.
India provides Micron with access to a highly educated and talented workforce. The skill set of Micron’s employees in Hyderabad includes information technology functions and engineering talent who can design and develop high-quality, cutting-edge memory and storage solutions. Micron’s team of engineers, researchers and developers around the world drive innovation essential for managing the complexity of the company’s global operations network, which includes supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, test and assembly, packaging, information technology and quality organizations.
Micron first expanded its footprint in India when it opened its operations site in Bengaluru in April 2019. Micron’s India presence in Bengaluru and now in Hyderabad complements the company’s global centers of excellence around the world, providing design and product engineering functions for next-generation memory and high-value storage solutions. Located in the heart of Hyderabad’s IT corridor and spanning 350,000 square feet, Micron’s office includes six purpose-built design and verification labs.
The company aims to fill a wide range of roles in Hyderabad, including those in engineering, science, research and information technology. Micron expects to hire approximately 2,000 employees in India within the next few years.
In line with Micron’s commitment to investing in the local communities in which it operates, the company also announced that it is awarding a $100,000 grant to the Akshaya Patra Foundation’s midday-meal program through the Micron Foundation. The program helps eliminate classroom hunger, increase school attendance, address malnutrition, improve concentration and provide employment opportunities for women.
